Eberl (2009):

In 2009, a recycling project was conducted at the University of North Carolina- Charlotte. A four-week recycling intervention was conducted testing the use of new social media to increase recycling behavior. Three different residence halls received weekly emails with links to social networking sites such as Facebook, YouTube, and Twitter that reminded dorm residents to recycle.

Results:

After the four-week program, a large increase in recycling behavior from baseline rates was found in two of the three dormitories.
Social Media may be an attractive strategy to improve recycling behavior.
